Course Description 2008
For a third year, CSIA and Sierra College have teamed up to offer an exceptional
lift maintenance technical training program. Endorsed by the CSIA Board of Directors,
the CSIA Technical Committee, and CalOSHA Senior Engineer Jorg Ludwig, the 2008
training program will offer an introductory, intermediate and new advanced level
course in Ropeway Mechatronics. Mechatronics is the internationally recognized umbrella
term for the study of mechanics, electricity, electronics, pneumatics, hydraulics,
programming, and computer control. Our courses will apply those concepts to passenger
ropeways. For more information on Mechatronics, please visit Sierra College's website
at www.realskillsrealjobs.com.
The five-day, 40-hour intensive courses will be taught by Sierra College professors
Steve Hunter, Mike Halbern and Gary Campbell, who will be joined by some of our
industry's most experienced and respected leaders. Our Sierra College professors
have extensive experience teaching electro-mechanical technology with a focus on
hands-on training in the maintenance of automated equipment. Their industrial clients
include Boise Cascade, Weyerhaeuser, Hewlett-Packard and N.E.C.. Our 40-hour courses
will be approximately 25% conceptual and 75% hands-on. These are non-credit courses,
but successful students will receive a "Certificate of Course Completion."
RoMec I "Introduction to Ropeway Mechatronics" is designed
for lift maintenance technicians with 1-2 years of ski industry experience. The
goal is to develop technicians capable of going back to work at their respective
resorts with knowledge of safety, general concepts, terminology, tools, and troubleshooting.
Anyone looking for a broader systems knowledge of ropeways, even the most experienced
technician, will benefit from this course. RoMec I is offered only during Session
1.
RoMec II "Intermediate Ropeway Mechatronics" is intended
for technicians with approximately 2-5 years of lift maintenance experience. This
course will be co-taught by a Sierra College professor and industry leaders. RoMec
II is offered only during Session 2.
RoMec III "Advanced Ropeway Mechatronics" is a new offering
and is being designed for technicians with at least 5 years of lift maintenance
experience. This course will be co-taught by a Sierra College professor and industry
leaders. RoMec III is offered only during Session 2.
If you would like more guidance in deciding which RoMec course is most appropriate
for you or your team, please contact CSIA.
